One day mankind will look back in amazement at today's energy technologies. Why so primitive? So wasteful? So destructive? Why was energy so expensive .
Einstein's famous equation E = mc^2 and it's implications for generating energy, namely that almost all useful energy ultimately comes from the conversion of mass to energy . With that perspective we try our best supply for a large a growing energy needs .
But after reading about black holes and it's amazing abilities a very unrealistic idea has been driving me crazy. When we think of a black hole all we see is destruction but I think there can be something profitable about this destructive ability of a black hole.
Let's imagine an advanced civilization could be positioned in orbit around a black hole (a suitable black hole) or perhaps it's scientists could know how to make a black hole at a suitable place . Material launched into a rapidly spinning black hole might produce energy with more than 100% efficiency; 100% of the mass can be converted into energy. So such a civilization can load up it's trash into a rocket ,fly the rocket near a black hole and the rocket I think should return with more kinetic energy than it left with which could be easily converted into useful energy. This could generate energy from trash...you know how much energy is contained in the mass of a small coin? .
It can be a completely clean process goes into black hole is recycled as elementary particles and is gone forever . Thus black might be the perfect generator (let's workout the math together)......
